The start of the journey is in Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth. Here, you will be welcomed by your tour guide. A short transfer to a 4* hotel with a pool and sea view. The bikes you've brought along can be assembled at your leisure and rental bikes can be adjusted.

Paxton Hotel 4*

A half-hour transfer will take you on a morning safari in an open 4x4 vehicle in Addo Elephant National Park. Formerly established to protect the Addo elephants, the park has since been expanded to become the second-largest in the country after Kruger National Park. As well as the large grey mammals, you can also see zebras, lions, buffalo, ostriches, tortoises, warthogs, and blesbok. Afterwards, a 1.5-hour transfer to Humansdorp on the Garden Route. The first cycling stage will take you along quiet side roads at the edge of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Overnight stay in a charming 3-star lodge. (B)

Today's cycling route from the lodge leads into Tsitsikamma National Park. A short hike to the 3 suspension bridges at Storms River. Rock dassies are often seen here. A short, steep climb back up to the coastal plateau. Descent into the primeval valley of the Bloukrans. There you can see the impressive Bloukrans Bridge, from which the world's highest bungee jump can be made. The break is in Nature's Valley, one of South Africa's most beautiful beaches. Once again, we head up to the plateau, to the seaside resort of Keurboomstrand. Transfer to George, located at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, to a cosy 4* guesthouse. (B)

You set off directly from the guesthouse. The route along the old Cape Road takes you through fertile farmland, later on to the Indian Ocean at Hartenbos. With a gradient of 7%, the cycle route climbs to Robinson Pass (860 m), offering frequent beautiful views back towards the coast. Within a few kilometres, the landscape changes from the evergreen coast to the arid expanses of the Little Karoo. The route to the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn takes you past many ostrich and goat farms. Along the way, you can admire the razor-sharp outlines of the 2,000-metre-high Swartberg Mountains. You are invited to dinner tonight, where a tender ostrich steak is, of course, a must. (B, D)

A short bike tour to an ostrich farm. Here you'll learn more about the life and breeding of this curious bird. The route continues on level ground to Calitzdorp, known for its good port wines. After a break, it heads up the Gamka River to the Huisriver Pass (655 m). Passing fertile fruit and wine farms, the route leads to Ladismith, which is overlooked by the 2050 m high Towerkop. Accommodation is in a cosy, simple guesthouse in the town centre. (B)

On a quiet road in the early morning, you'll travel through the sparse solitude of the Little Karoo, with views stretching over 100 km. In the fruit-growing town of Barrydale, enjoy a well-deserved break before heading up the Tradouw Pass (750 m) and then descending for a long stretch into the wine town of Montagu. The hot springs that Montagu is famous for are located near the lodge. If you wish, you can take a guided tour of the town in an original Cadillac. A visit to the Hot Springs is also worthwhile – a real treat for tired cycling muscles! If desired, the cycling route can be shortened to 76 km. (F)

A short transfer to Worcester. The cycle route takes you past numerous vineyards via Rawsonville into the peaceful Slangkop Valley. From there, the route continues to the entrance of the Bainskloof Gorge. This listed road was built 170 years ago and, apart from the road surface, has remained unchanged. The varied route leads leisurely through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cape Nama, with no more than a 7% gradient uphill. Alongside fascinating proteas and ericas, you can also spot klipspringers and baboons. From the 600-metre-high pass summit, you can already see Table Mountain 70 km away. A long descent leads to the wine town of Wellington. The journey then continues by bus past many renowned vineyards to Stellenbosch. The country’s second-oldest town boasts a wealth of well-preserved historic buildings constructed in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Street cafés, galleries and shops selling arts and crafts invite you to take a stroll. Short transfer to the seaside resort of Gordons Bay. Accommodation is in a lovely 4* guesthouse directly opposite the beach. (B)

Manor on the Bay Guesthouse 4*

Directly from the guesthouse, the route follows the Atlantic Ocean to Rooi Els. The only slightly hilly but scenically very attractive route runs at the foot of the Kogelberg massif and offers beautiful views of the opposite Cape Peninsula. With a bit of luck, you can see whales and Cape fur seals in October and November. After the return journey, a support vehicle takes you into the heart of Cape Town, one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. You will check into a comfortable 4-star hotel, not far from the ocean. A walking tour will introduce you to the main sights: Parade, Castle, Old Town Hall, Greenmarket Square, Company's Garden, Natural and Historical Museum, and the Malay Quarter. The seafood in Cape Town is excellent: oysters and giant crayfish are specialties and affordable too. (B)

Short transfer to Simon's Town. On the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula, you cycle along the sea to the Boulders Beach penguin colony and continue to the Cape of Good Hope. On the other side of the Cape Peninsula, you cycle back to Cape Town. The coastal road via Chapman's Peak and Hout Bay is rightly considered one of the most breathtaking routes in South Africa. It's no wonder that the popular Cape Town Cycle Tour cycling race with over 35,000 participants from all over the world takes place here annually. (F) 

Guests on the March tour can participate in the Cape Town Cycle Tour (109 km, 1220 hm) for an entry fee (not yet published). We will be happy to take care of the registration for you. Unfortunately, the described day's programme cannot take place on this day due to the cycle race.
