Travel overview
On this extraordinary hiking tour, true nature lovers get to know southern Africa up close. On this adventure trip, you will hike in the plant paradise at the Cape of Good Hope, climb the landmark of Cape Town - Table Mountain, climb through the impressively bizarre mountain world of the Cederberg, paddle for half a day in a canoe on the desert river Oranje and hike along the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon. We then head into the Namib Desert to Sossusvlei. A very special experience is the 2.5-day hike on the Tok Tokkie Trail through the Namib Naukluft with two overnight stays on camp beds under the starry desert sky. After visiting the German-influenced town of Swakopmund on the cold Atlantic Ocean, you hike along the Spitzkoppe and discover the rock paintings of the Khoisan. Finally, there are 2 days of safari in the Etosha Pan, which is rich in wildlife, before heading to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. The guided day hikes are between 3 and 8 hours long, with a maximum ascent of 1000 meters. A good level of fitness, surefootedness and hiking experience are recommended.
NOTES:
The hikes on this trip require a moderate level of fitness with normal surefootedness. Only a daypack with provisions and a water bottle is carried on this round trip. There is bedding on the camp beds and in the evenings you dine at a stylishly set table. A toilet and shower are available. At the travel times indicated, it is dry season everywhere except in Cape Town. During the day it is pleasantly warm 22 °C - 33 °C with no significant humidity, but at night it can get very cold, especially in the Namib Desert, with temperatures just above freezing.
