Travel overview
We enjoy the first 4 days in the Winelands, 200 kilometres away from the metropolis of Cape Town. The quiet, safe roads take us past many excellent wine estates that invite us to stop for a bite to eat. The terrain ranges from flat to hilly and is always framed by the Langeberg Mountains, which rise steeply up to 1800 metres. At the end, you cycle along the country's most beautiful coastal roads at False Bay and the Cape of Good Hope, where the famous Cape Town Cycle Tour takes place every year in March.

After breakfast, we cycle through the Kogmanskloof to Ashton. Continue on the hilly road to Drew, passing many farms. Drive past wine and fruit farms into the barren Little Karoo savannah. The contrast between the barren but succulent-rich native vegetation and the green farms couldn't be greater. The destination is the 1240 m high Rooihoogte Pass with impressive views of the Langeberg Mountains. There we turn around and head back to Montagu. Short transfer to Worcester. The cycle route leads past many wineries via Rawsonville into the tranquil Slangkop Valley. From there, the route continues to the entrance of the Bainskloof Gorge. This listed road was built 170 years ago and has not been changed apart from the road surface. The varied route leads through the Capensis UNESCO World Heritage Site at a leisurely uphill gradient of no more than 7%. In addition to fascinating proteas and ericas, you can also see klipspringers and baboons. From the 600 metre high pass you can already see Table Mountain 70 kilometres away. A long descent leads to the wine town of Wellington. The bus then continues past many well-known wine estates to Stellenbosch. The second oldest town in the country has a large number of well-preserved historical buildings built in the Cape Dutch style. Street cafés, galleries and shops selling arts and crafts invite you to take a stroll. Short transfer to the seaside resort of Gordons Bay. Accommodation is in a beautiful 4* guest house. (F)

After the return journey and a shower, the support vehicle will take you into the heart of Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. After lunch, the starting documents are collected and then you move into a comfortable 4* hotel not far from the sea. In the evening we dine together and the seafood cuisine in Cape Town is excellent: lobster and langoustines are specialities and affordable too. (F)

International participants always start between 7.20 and 7.35 am. This has two advantages; it is still cool in the morning and the South Africans who started earlier have qualified with good times. This means that anyone aiming for a time of around 3.45 hours will have good riders in the groups that form.
The journey to the start of the Cape Town Cycle Tour is only 6 kilometres. The first 20 km are a brisk ride on the closed city motorway to the False Bay coast. The beautiful coastal road through Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simonstown is unfortunately spoilt by the wind, which usually blows from the front. This makes the journey northwards along the west side of the peninsula all the more speedy. Scarborough and Misty Cliffs lie on the azure blue Atlantic. The spectators cheer you on, accompanied by drums, as you pass Masiphumelele and then comes the most beautiful stretch of South African coastline, the 7 km up and down Chapmans Peak Drive. The final climb is over Suikerbossie Hill and then a brisk ride through the suburbs of Camps Bay and Clifton to the finish. From there it is only 3 km back to your accommodation.
We are happy to take care of your registration for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
