Over the Outeniqua Mountains you go into the steppe of the Little Karoo, the center of ostrich farming. Lonely valleys, flowering succulents, charming villages and spectacular views characterize the landscape. In the wine region, the unique vegetation of the plant kingdom Capensis meets a cultivated way of life. Cape Dutch architecture has experienced its greatest development here. Cape Town impresses with its great location at the foot of Table Mountain. This guided cycling tour along the south coast of South Africa is characterized by the many secluded and low-traffic cycling routes that mostly run on asphalt roads. Your tour guide accompanies you on the bike, has plenty of information at hand and also helps in the event of a breakdown. The support vehicle is always nearby, transports the main luggage and has delicious picnics with it. Good mountain bikes or e-bikes are available; we recommend bringing your own saddle, and if you want, bring a handlebar bag and clipless pedals. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After a short transfer, we drive along a beautiful, quiet tarmac road through the vastness of the Klein Karoo. The views of the Swartberg Mountains are impressive, especially the distant vistas. After lunch and a short break, we reach a highlight of the journey. On the ride into the Meiringspoort with its walls up to 700 metres high, you feel very small as a cyclist. The folds in the sandstone caused by the formation of the Swartberg Mountains are clearly visible. On the way, there is a stop at a waterfall with a swimming opportunity. The journey continues down the Kammanassie Valley. We leave the valley and enjoy the beautiful views into the Klein Karoo semi-desert. Succulents and acacia bushes now dominate. If you fancy, you can cycle into the nearby Meiringspoort with its walls up to 700 m high. Here, as a cyclist, you feel very small.<\/p>\n

The varied route leads leisurely through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cape Flats, with no more than a 7\u202f% gradient uphill. Alongside fascinating proteas and ericas, you can also spot klipspringers and baboons. From the 600-metre-high pass summit, you can already see Table Mountain 70 km away. A long descent leads to the wine town of Wellington. Transfer to Stellenbosch follows. The country\u2019s second-oldest town boasts a wealth of well-preserved historic buildings constructed in the Cape Dutch architectural style.
