African Bikers – Active by Nature

African Bikers was founded by Andreas Lappe and Jens Deister in 1993, after the two of them arrived in Cape Town following a year-long trip across Africa by bike. As the first and oldest South African cycle tour operator, African Bikers and the team have been the local experts for over 25 years, with detailed knowledge and insider tips that are often unknown to tour operators and travel agencies. In addition to our cycle tours, we organise hiking, nature, multi-activity and safari tours not only in South Africa, but also in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

At African Bikers, you can expect friendly and competent tour guides who all speak German. Almost all of them have German-African roots, live locally and will show you their homeland in a lively and committed way. This includes a visit to the Noluthando kindergarten in the Cape Town township of Khayelitsha, which has been supported by African Bikers for 20 years. We research all our itineraries and accommodation ourselves, constantly review them and improve them where necessary - not least thanks to constructive feedback from our guests. For your trip with us, we prefer a mixture of personally managed guesthouses, bed and breakfasts, small hotels, beautifully situated, stylish lodges and sometimes - if we are travelling far away from civilisation - simple, clean chalets.

All our cycle tours are organised with constant back-up, which means that you decide for yourself when you want to ride in the support vehicle. And your luggage is always close by without you having to transport it yourself. Our e-bikes, mountain bikes, touring bikes and racing bikes for hire come from well-known brands such as Trek and Schwinn. Of course, you can also bring your own bike.

We attach great importance to individual care, which is why our groups are small and, with a few exceptions, consist of no more than 15 guests. If there are fewer than the specified minimum number of guests for the trip, we will always try to organise the trip - possibly at an additional cost. All our tours can also be booked as individual tours for 2 or more people. As a long-standing local specialist, we are happy to work out tailor-made programmes for you according to your ideas, such as self-drive tours or individual extensions. As you book with us directly with the tour operator, we can provide you with expert advice and realise your personal ideas directly and at a reasonable price. Our goal is to have enthusiastic guests who are happy to return for new nature experiences with African Bikers.
